Our FBS Shorty®s are convenient, ready-to-use aliquots (10 x 50 ml) of fetal bovine serum (FBS). FBS Shorty®s are designed to relieve you of the tedious and time-consuming task of FBS aliquoting, so you can focus on your research. We take over the aliquoting of your chosen FBS batch and you can easily add the FBS to your desired medium in just one step. This saves time, energy and resources and reduces the possibility of contamination to a minimum.
On request, we can offer you all our sera pre-aliquoted (as FBS Shorty®s).
This FBS Shorty® batch contains FBS High Performance. FBS High Performance is a specially developed FBS with a significantly reduced serum content. For this product, natural FBS was mixed with identified key components (growth factors) in a synthetic, highly concentrated form. Through an additional chromatographic removal of endotoxins (lipopolysaccharides), FBS High Performance represents an almost defined serum with minimized batch variations. FBS High Performance offers a more sustainable alternative to natural FBS and shows consistent or even improved cell cultivation properties. The reduced serum content also promotes animal welfare.
Properties
Less work - practical ready-to-use FBS aliquots (10 x 50 ml)
Less contamination - controlled aliquoting in cleanrooms
More convenience - ready-to-use cell culture medium in just one step
Good to know
In order to create in vivo conditions for in vitro cell culture, serum is usually added to the cell culture medium. Serum serves the cells as a source of growth factors, lipids, hormones and minerals. Fetal bovine serum (FBS) is particularly rich in growth factors and contains few antibodies that could interfere with cell cultivation. This unique composition makes FBS one of the most important supplements for cell proliferation in in-vitro cell culture. By default, 10% FBS is added to cell culture media. To avoid repeated freeze-thaw cycles, FBS is generally aliquoted in a suitable volume. This is laborious, time-consuming and increases the risk of contamination. Save yourself the trouble of aliquoting and leave it to us!
