Product information

Colcemid (demecolcin) is a synthetic and less toxic analog of colchicine (a toxic alkaloid found in Colchicum autumnale). This synthetic alkaloid depolymerizes microtubules, thereby inhibiting the formation of spindle fibers during cell mitosis. Colcemid is therefore primarily used in chromosome analysis for the karyotyping of lymphocytes and the analysis of amniotic fluid cells. It arrests cells during metaphase and exposes chromosomes, which can then be analyzed.

Our colcemid (demecolcin) solution is formulated in D-PBS and has a concentration of 10 µg/ml.
